Our 1850's Styles The Verretta Louia sometimes referred to as the round cottage, recreates the early 1850's circle and the mid 1850's oval.  The Lavinia Ruth A family of bonnets spanning the late 1840's to the early 1860's. The bavolet juts from the bonnet points to the middle of the bonnet and rounds the crown. The Juliana Rose Initially appearing in the fashion pages in 1854.  This low brimmed bonnet sits extremely far back on the head.  The brim rises above the forehead as the 1860’s approach. The Flora Francine A three piece bonnet with a flat tip, first appearing in the American fashion plates in 1855.  Creates the late 1850's circular and oval shapes. Choosing an 1850's Bonnet   In the Fashion Pages Graham's Magazine 1850 Peterson's Magazine 1853 Godey's Lady's Book 1854 Godey's Lady's Book 1855 Godey's Lady's Book 1857 Peterson's Magazine 1859 In Practical Millinery   At the beginning of the 1850's, the cottage bonnet morphed into a thimble-like shape. The front corners began to descend into narrow points that would meet under the chin creating an extremely round shape around the face.  As the 1850's progressed, the bonnet brim shortened, but flared out with enough depth to keep the lovely round shape around the face. By 1855, the brim shortened further with the whole bonnet sitting very low on the crown. The shape transitioned easily into the fashionable low brim bonnet of the mid to late 1850's.
